It’s a cinch
I manage to balance the opposing qualities of hyper-organisation and scattiness with remarkable ease.
Case in point, at the weekend I lost the battery cover panel from my phone. After thoroughly searching my handbag I decided not to fuss and just go and buy a cheap new phone. These things happen. I handed over my £39.99, impressed that I’d managed to grab a pink phone that I quite liked at this bargain price. Mon chéri poo-pooed this purchase, saying I could order a new battery cover. True, but that takes time, I don’t really want to deal with it, I simply wanted to close the book on my clumsy loss.
In the car on the way home, I get my new trainers out to coo, and what do I find? The battery cover. On the very top of the bag, very obviously. I kicked myself for a few minutes but whatever, I prefer my new phone, I clearly can’t be trusted with anything of any value.
Yesterday was a triumph of determination over common sense. Did I go for a walk around and around the only green space I know near my office? Yes. And later than night did I pummel my joints on the treadmill having not run since early January? You betcha! Today I’ve been really focused at work and sitting for long periods instead of taking little walk breaks like I usually would and every time I get up I can almost hear my hips creak. Nevertheless I persisted with loosening up those muscles, tendons and ligaments with another 40 minute walk at lunch. Some colleagues were sat in the park and I felt too self-conscious to walk around and around them, so I ventured further and now have quite a nice route which is mostly near trees. I’m wary about pollution but living and working in London it’s unavoidable.
Tonight mon chéri et moi are going swimming. It’s only my second outing in a bikini since I was, ooh, twelve, so I’m nervous. But last time we swam all the other women were wearing horrid swimsuits and caps and leaning towards chunky, so I felt pretty good. I know, don’t triumph at other people’s expense, but it’s a bikini for chrissake. We have a gym membership that we’re trying to make the most of and now the evenings are lighter I want to get out and do things other than nesting. Tonight I’m cooking up some sausages, mashed potato and broccoli for dinner, hopefully we’ll get to eat earlier than last night’s 9.30pm. I’m going to try and get mon chéri to attack the mountain of washing up that’s invaded our kitchen while I cook instead of hitting the console (I really hate that thing. I’m a breath away from pouring water in it, if only it didn’t double for our DVD player). We’ll see how my persuasion skills measure up after a long work and exercise day.
